Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and members of the State Executive Council have mourned the passing of former Military Administrator of the state, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), who died on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
A statement on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Daniel Alabrah, said Diri, Speaking at the 163rd Executive Council meeting held in Government House, Yenagoa, described Olubolade’s death as a “rude shock,” recalling his pivotal role in shaping the state during its early years of creation.
Olubolade served as Bayelsa’s military administrator from June 27, 1997, to July 9, 1998, and remained a strong ally of the state government even after leaving office.
“His passing is a painful loss not just to Bayelsa, but to Nigeria,” Diri stated. “Captain Olubolade was a man of integrity, humility and vision. He played a foundational role in laying the early structures of governance in our state.”
A minute of silence was observed by the State Executive Council in honour of the late officer, whom Diri described as “selfless” and “deeply committed to the progress of Bayelsa.”
