The Nigerian entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of popular Nollywood actress, plus-size advocate, and social media influencer, Monalisa Ayobami Stephen.
Stephen, 33, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos after reported complications stemming from low blood sugar and internal bleeding.
Her death was confirmed by her family and later announced publicly by entertainment executive and Best of Nollywood CEO, Seun Oloketuyi.
Taking to Instagram, Oloketuyi wrote: “Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead. She died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding.
Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul.”

Monalisa was widely recognized for her fearless voice on topics like body positivity, mental health, and self-worth.
