Traffic Diversion Alert: Marine Bridge Maintenance Begins May 18, Lagos Govt Announces

A major traffic diversion will take effect on the Marine Bridge starting Sunday, May 18, 2025, as announced by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

The move is part of scheduled repair works led by the Federal Ministry of Works.

In a statement issued by Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the bridge maintenance will run through Sunday, June 8, 2025.

To limit disruption to vehicular movement, Osiyemi explained, the repair work will be executed in two phases.

“Phase 1 will span from the foot of Marine Bridge (Lawani Oguntayo Road inbound Apapa/Costain), while Phase 2 will cover Ijora Badia and the Lilypond Access Ramp inbound Apapa,” the commissioner detailed.

For Phase 1, motorists heading to Apapa from Ijora Olopa are advised to use the Ijora Causeway access ramp near Omni Retail Company.

During Phase 2, those traveling from Costain to Apapa will be rerouted into a contraflow lane on the Costain-bound route.

Additionally, between June 2 and 8, commuters from Ijora Olopa to Apapa should use the Ijora Causeway access ramp through the Lilypond Access Road.

Osiyemi assured that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage traffic throughout the period. The bridge is expected to fully reopen by Monday, June 9, 2025.

Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and remain patient as the government carries out these essential maintenance works to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridge infrastructure.
