Nigerian music icon and actor Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has announced the successful completion of a Master’s degree in Policy Management from the prestigious Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
The singer and public servant made the announcement via his official Instagram page today, sharing a deeply personal message that reflected on faith, family, and perseverance.
“Faith gives you that courage, resilience and power to redefine endings,” he wrote. “What many might see as the finish line of a journey can become the starting point of the next chapter of your story.”
Banky W explained that the past few years had been particularly demanding for him and his family. During his studies, he also served as a fellow on Capitol Hill while raising two children with his wife, Nollywood actress and musician Adesua Etomi-Wellington.
In the midst of the academic journey, the couple welcomed their second child, Hezekiah Oluwadarasimi Wellington. Despite the demanding schedule and responsibilities, he noted that he drew strength from his faith and the support of his loved ones.
“Parenting two children in the U.S., while earning a full-time Master’s and serving as a fellow on Capitol Hill all at the same time was completely exhausting,” he said. “But by the grace of God, the strength of faith, and the support of family, friends and mentors — we did it.”

Banky W, who has previously ventured into politics and public advocacy, described the degree as a new beginning rather than a final destination.
In a lighthearted tone, he credited his wife for her unwavering support, saying she deserved an honorary policy degree. “I told her I enjoyed it so much that I’m thinking about earning a PhD next. She said she hopes my next wife will support me on that,” he joked. “Let me make some money first — I’ll come back to this PhD matter.”
His message concluded with an inspiring note to others: “It is never too late to dream a new dream or redefine the ending of an existing one.”
Banky W’s latest accomplishment adds a new chapter to his diverse career, which spans music, film, philanthropy, and governance — reinforcing his evolving role as a voice for leadership and purpose-driven service.
