Kendrick vs. Queen Tay! American Music Awards 2025 Set to Rock Las Vegas — Beyoncé, Janet, JLo Bring the Heat

Las Vegas is about to light up with star power as the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs) take centre stage tonight — and from the look of things, this year’s edition promises more drama, more glitz, and plenty for fans to scream about!

All eyes are on Kendrick Lamar, who’s leading the nomination table with 10 nods, thanks to his viral diss anthem “Not Like Us”, which continues to pepper Canadian rapper Drake. The same song is up for Song of the Year and has already scooped five Grammys. Call it a lyrical uppercut that’s now chasing fan-voted glory.

But standing in Kendrick’s way is the unstoppable Taylor Swift, pop’s most decorated queen with a record-breaking 40 AMAs under her belt. Coming fresh off the biggest concert tour in history (yes, Eras Tour still dey burst brain), Taylor is up for Artist of the Year and may just add more golden statues to her empire.

Also contending for the top prize are pop darlings Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, soulful hitmakers SZA and Billie Eilish, country sensation Morgan Wallen, and fan faves Zack Bryan and Chappell Roan. It’s a full house of global talent, and fans — especially Nigerians — are watching closely. We too sabi good music!

Post Malone is also pulling a fast one—this time in a cowboy hat. With eight nominations and his genre-jumping album F-1 Trillion, the rapper-turned-country-singer is aiming to ride home with a few yee-haw trophies, including Favourite Country Album.

And guess who’s making serious waves in the country scene? Our very own Queen Bey! Beyoncé’s groundbreaking Cowboy Carter has her in the running for Album of the Year and Favourite Female Country Artist. From Houston to the Wild West, Bey is clearly not playing.

And speaking of legends, Janet Jackson will be honoured with the Icon Award, while Rod Stewart gets the Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s giving goosebumps, nostalgia, and top-tier vibes!

For Nigerian fans catching the show, tune in live on CBS by 8 p.m. Eastern (1 a.m. Tuesday Nigerian time). Don’t sleep on it — Twitter will be on fire, and we already know Nigerian X users will have plenty of memes, hot takes, and music commentary ready.
