Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a high-profile transfer worth a reported £62.5 million ($83 million), marking the club’s first major move under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Cunha, 26, is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a one-year extension.
The deal was confirmed on Sunday after the player underwent the final stages of his medical over the weekend in Manchester. United triggered the release clause in Cunha’s contract to secure the deal.
“Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha,” the club said in an official statement. “Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.”
The Brazilian international arrives after a standout season with Wolves, where he netted 18 goals across all competitions and was named the club’s Player of the Year.
Since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, Cunha made 92 appearances and scored 33 goals.
The move comes as Amorim looks to rebuild the Red Devils following a dismal 2024/25 campaign.

United finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League and suffered heartbreak in the Europa League final, losing to Tottenham.
Cunha’s arrival is seen as a statement of intent from the Portuguese manager as he seeks to restore the club’s former glory.
Cunha, who has 13 international caps for Brazil, is expected to add flair and firepower to United’s attacking line.
His arrival is, however, still subject to visa approval and registration before he can officially join first-team activities.
The transfer not only signals a fresh chapter for Cunha but also marks a significant reshaping of United’s frontline as the club aims to bounce back from their worst league finish in over 50 years.
