Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated her commitment to promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of persons living with albinism across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday to mark the 2025 International Albinism Awareness Day, Senator Tinubu expressed strong solidarity with Nigeria’s albino community, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reinforce collective action against discrimination and marginalisation.
This year’s global theme, “Demanding Our Rights: Protect Our Skin, Preserve Our Lives,” was hailed by the First Lady as a compelling call to action. She emphasised the importance of ensuring that individuals with albinism enjoy equal rights, access to healthcare, and protection from societal abuse.
“I reaffirm my commitment to advocating for inclusive policies and public education that protect the rights of persons with albinism,” she said. “We must build a society where every Nigerian, regardless of skin condition, can thrive with pride and dignity.”

Senator Tinubu underscored the need for continuous efforts to eliminate stigma and create safe environments where persons with albinism are empowered to live fulfilling lives.
Her statement comes as Nigeria’s albino community intensifies its national campaign to end discrimination and promote equal opportunities for persons with the condition. The campaign includes advocacy for policy reforms, access to skin care and protective items, and greater public awareness of the unique challenges they face.
The First Lady’s support has been widely welcomed by advocacy groups, who view her intervention as a boost to the national conversation on inclusion and equity for all vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
