The Delta State Police Command has apprehended two individuals after a video showing them smoking a substance suspected to be marijuana on a police patrol van went viral on social media.
The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Patrick Junior Asini, and 20-year-old Tega Ojo, were arrested following public outrage over the footage, which circulated widely on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, originally posted by an X user #dammiedammie35, one of the men is seen sitting on top of a patrol vehicle marked “Nigeria Police Force Anti-crime Patrol, Oghara Division.”
He appears to be smoking, while another voice in the background shouts profanities and mocks police officers, flashing an obscene hand gesture.
The clip, believed to have been recorded at a car wash, quickly drew the attention of Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrests via his official X account on Thursday.
“The two suspects, Patrick Junior Asini, aged 34, and Tega Ojo, aged 20, in the video, have been arrested.

The following exhibits were found in their possession,” Edafe wrote.
Items recovered from the suspects include a Nigerian Army khaki uniform, a green beret, a face mask, an axe, a cutlass, six smartphones, four laptops, cannabis, weed grinders, and Rizla rolling papers—tools commonly linked to drug use.
Reaffirming the command’s dedication to upholding law and order, Edafe also used the opportunity to comment on public perception of law enforcement.
“Police is your friend. It just depends on how you interpret it,” he said.
