What was meant to be a day of joy and celebration turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Bauchi State as a groom and two of his close friends died in a devastating car crash just an hour before his wedding.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning in Bargan Tsamiya, a village in the Toro Local Government Area.
The groom, identified as SP Mustapha Garba Gumau, a senior officer in the Nigeria Police Force, was reportedly en route to Magaman-Gumau for his wedding fatiha when the accident occurred around 9:00 a.m.
The ceremony was scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the vehicle lost control and veered off the road before overturning.
The impact was fatal. SP Gumau and two of his companions — Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa — died on the spot.
Other passengers in the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
The tragic news has sent shockwaves through the communities of Gumau and Magaman-Gumau.

Residents, relatives, and friends who had gathered in anticipation of a joyous wedding were instead met with tears and mourning.
“It’s unimaginable. We were waiting to welcome the groom for the ceremony when we got the call. No one could believe it,” a family member said, visibly shaken.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Mohammed Wakil, for official comments were unsuccessful as his phone line remained unreachable at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, expressions of grief have poured in from colleagues, community leaders, and sympathizers across the state, as the loss of SP Gumau — known for his dedication and service — is being deeply felt within and beyond the police force.
This tragic turn of events serves as a somber reminder of life’s unpredictability — a moment of planned happiness overshadowed by sorrow.
