A new and deadly escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict unfolded overnight as Israeli missile strikes hit strategic targets in Tehran, including the state television headquarters, prompting a retaliatory wave of Iranian missile launches toward Israel’s major cities.
Iranian state media confirmed that the strike on the state broadcaster’s headquarters killed at least three people.
Israeli military officials said they had targeted multiple sites in western Iran, including missile infrastructure, drone storage facilities, and surface-to-air launch systems.
Black-and-white aerial footage released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) showed explosions at several of the targeted installations. The IDF said the preemptive strikes were aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to launch further missile and drone attacks.
Shortly after the strikes on Tehran, air raid sirens blared across central and southern Israel. AFP correspondents in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv reported hearing loud booms as missile defense systems activated to intercept incoming projectiles.
“Sirens sounded in several areas across Israel following the identification of missiles launched from Iran,” the Israeli military said in a statement. “The air force is operating to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat.”
Police later confirmed that shrapnel fell in parts of Tel Aviv, damaging property but causing no injuries. Firefighters responded to a blaze in the commercial center believed to be linked to falling debris.
The latest exchanges mark a dramatic intensification of hostilities that began Friday when Israel launched a surprise aerial offensive targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities. That move came amid growing fears over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions — an allegation Iran continues to deny.
Despite growing international pressure for calm, neither side has shown signs of backing down.

Israeli authorities briefly instructed citizens to seek shelter during the latest barrage, and the military has remained on high alert.
In Washington, President Donald Trump has yet to comment directly on the overnight escalation but earlier urged Iranian citizens to evacuate “immediately.” His warning drew international criticism, with China accusing him of “pouring oil” on an already volatile situation.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the Pentagon is deploying “additional capabilities” to the region to deter further aggression and protect American assets.
The USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, departed Southeast Asia on Monday, canceling a planned stop in Vietnam amid reports it is heading toward the Middle East.
A White House spokesperson reiterated that U.S. forces in the region remain in a defensive posture, focused on deterrence and the protection of American personnel and interests.
As missile trails streak the skies over two of the Middle East’s most volatile capitals, the world watches anxiously for signs of either a diplomatic breakthrough—or a slide into broader regional war.
