The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered a significant quantity of hard drugs following a successful raid on a suspected drug den in Oko community, Orumba North Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the operation was launched on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
According to Ikenga, the CP had identified drug abuse as a major driver of criminal activities in the state and ordered a targeted crackdown on drug-related operations, particularly in Oko and surrounding areas.
“CP Orutugu has reiterated that substance abuse remains a key factor fueling most crimes, and he has therefore directed a sustained clampdown on all forms of criminality linked to drug use,” Ikenga stated.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, while the recovered substances have been sent for forensic analysis.
The police said further operations are planned as part of broader efforts to rid the state of drug-related crime.
