Ganduje Resigns as APC National Chairman

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stepped down as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing his tenure to an abrupt end.

The former Kano State governor, who took up the party’s top job in August 2023, announced his resignation with immediate effect, citing personal health reasons.

In his resignation letter, Ganduje said his decision was “necessary to focus on my well-being,” though he gave no further details.

However, sources familiar with the party’s internal workings suggest that his departure may not be entirely voluntary.

According to reports, Ganduje had faced increasing pushback from within the party over alleged financial improprieties.

Some APC members had complained of “excessive financial demands” linked to ticketing processes, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory area council elections.

His tenure as chairman had been a rocky one from the outset. In April 2024, a Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order restraining him from acting as a member of the APC, following internal disputes brought forward by party executives.

While that legal setback was temporary, it added to growing unease within the party’s ranks. A separate suit filed by the APC North Central Forum seeking his removal was later struck out by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Despite the official explanation for his resignation, Ganduje’s exit raises questions about the APC’s internal cohesion and the direction of its national leadership. The party has not yet issued a formal statement on his resignation.

As stakeholders await clarity, Ganduje’s surprise departure could signal deeper currents of dissatisfaction and power realignment within the ruling party.
