In a rare public show of unity following recent peace talks in Abuja to address the political crisis in Rivers State, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and suspended Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule were seen together on Saturday.

The three political figures made a joint appearance at the burial ceremony of Wike’s uncle, held in Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This was disclosed in post accompanied by photos and videos by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, shared on his X handle on Saturday.

The caption reads: “Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, alongside the Governor Siminalayi Fubara, at the burial of Wike’s Uncle in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State today.”

First News reported that at the Presidential Villa meeting, Tinubu met with Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and other members of the state legislature in a bid to end months of intense political tensions.

The President had earlier declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, citing rising insecurity and the breakdown of cooperation among key state actors — an action that led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.

Speaking after the closed-door session, Wike announced that both camps had finally reached an agreement to end hostilities and work together.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family,” Wike told journalists.
