Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has restated his commitment to securing 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, linking the pledge to his administration’s ongoing developmental strides across the state.
Speaking at the South–South Stakeholders Forum of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) held in Benin City over the weekend, Okpebholo emphasized that his performance-driven approach to governance would be the foundation for delivering on the promise he recently made to the president.
The forum had in attendance Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Minister of Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Obuku, former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Senators Adams Oshiomhole and Neda Imasuen, and several other key stakeholders and APC chieftains from the South–South region.
Okpebholo stated that he had taken development to areas previously neglected by past administrations, including the home community of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
According to him, his government is currently tarring roads across the eight communities that make up Obaseki’s area—communities he claimed were abandoned throughout the former governor’s eight-year tenure.
“When I said we will deliver 2.5 million votes to President Tinubu by 2027, I meant every word,” Okpebholo said. “Some members of the PDP asked how. I ask them—how will it not happen when we are already working? For the first time, roads are being tarred in communities the previous government left untouched for years.”

He credited the president for providing the support needed to execute projects across the state.
“We have a president who is taking bold decisions, making resources available, and backing us to perform. That kind of leadership deserves nothing short of full support. And for us in Edo, the way to show that is through votes in 2027.”
Recalling the challenges Tinubu faced during his campaign in 2023, Okpebholo noted: “They withdrew cash from circulation, made fuel unavailable—there was nothing they didn’t do to frustrate him. But today, he is in charge and releasing everything we need to work.”
He declared his unwavering loyalty to the president, saying, “I love my president with all my heart. We will vote for him with all our hearts. Wherever he goes, we will go.”
The governor’s comments serve as a strong political message and a follow-up to his earlier vow, as the APC intensifies its groundwork across the South–South ahead of the 2027 elections.
