Nigeria’s Super Falcons emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against the Ghana Black Queens on Sunday, defeating their West African rivals 3-1 in what has been dubbed a “Jollof Derby” friendly match.
Despite the excitement, the match was not televised, as confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The friendly fixture lived up to its billing as an intense battle of pride and supremacy between two of Africa’s most passionate footballing nations.
From the onset, both teams showed urgency and desire, but it was Nigeria who took the early lead.
Chinwendu Ihezuo opened the scoring for the Super Falcons in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up to slot home confidently.
Just before the break, Asisat Oshoala doubled the lead with a well-taken penalty in the 44th minute, sending Nigeria into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
Barely five minutes into the second half, Rasheedat Ajibade added to Ghana’s woes by making it 3-0 for the Falcons with a powerful strike from close range.

The Black Queens, however, refused to go down without a fight. Ghana’s Alice Kusi pulled one back in the 88th minute with a composed finish, giving the visitors a glimmer of hope.
Despite late pressure from the Ghanaians, the Nigerian defense held firm to seal the 3-1 victory.
With this win, the Super Falcons have now matched the feat of their male counterparts, the Super Eagles, who defeated Ghana’s Black Stars in the recent Unity Cup held in London.
The double triumph over Ghana has further fueled the long-standing football rivalry between the two nations, often humorously dubbed the “Jollof Derby” — a nod to their fierce culinary and cultural competition.
