Tensions boiled in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Monday, as furious youths launched a violent protest against escalating terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and killings plaguing their communities.
The protesters, mostly local residents, took to the streets demanding urgent government intervention.
Frustrated by what they described as silence and inaction from authorities, the youths vented their anger by setting ablaze the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office in Lafiagi.
Videos and images circulating on social media, and were seen by First News correspondent, also show the mob storming the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, vandalizing property in a show of public outrage.
The protests come in the wake of a series of abductions across Lafiagi and nearby villages, with multiple residents still held captive and families forced to pay hefty ransoms.
The latest attacks, reported within the past 12 hours, have further heightened tensions.
