Rivers Crisis Over, I won’t Reveal Peace Deal With Fubara — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he won’t disclose the details of his recent reconciliation with suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, stressing that the important thing is peace has returned to the state.

Wike made this known on Thursday, July 3, during a media chat at his residence in Abuja. When asked to share the terms of the truce, the former Rivers governor waved off the question.

“I will allow you to speculate, it’s not my business. All I know is that peace has come,” Wike said.

He added, “If you are not satisfied with that, there is nothing we can do. What is important is that peace has returned, whatever thing anybody says is not my business.”

According to Wike, some individuals had turned the political crisis in Rivers into a money-making scheme, profiting from the chaos for their own gain.

He claimed such people were now frustrated by the calm his reconciliation with Fubara had brought.

The political standoff between Wike and Fubara had intensified earlier this year, driven by a struggle over control of state structures.

In addition, the fallout saw members of the state House of Assembly loyal to Wike, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, attempt to impeach the governor.

In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu intervened, suspending Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.

As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu appointed retired naval chief, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas, as sole administrator of Rivers State.

Last month, Tinubu hosted a meeting with both Wike and Fubara, alongside the suspended lawmakers, to broker peace. The closed-door talks marked a turning point in the months-long crisis.

While the terms of the agreement remain unknown, Wike’s comments suggest a deliberate choice to keep the details private, at least for now. For him, the outcome, relative peace in the state, is all that matters.
