Otu Boasts Security Wins, Dismantles 16 Criminal Camps in Cross River

Governor Bassey Otu says Cross River State’s aggressive crackdown on criminal activity is paying off.

Speaking on Thursday, the 3rd of July, 2025, during a rally organized by the Cross River Southern Consultative Forum, Otu told a crowd of elders, APC leaders, and supporters that his administration has shut down all 16 known criminal camps across the state, especially those operating in the creeks.

The event also served as a platform to endorse him and President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

“Our war against criminals has gained momentum. We have dismantled over 16 miscreant camps. This has paved the way for peace and safety in the state. The onslaught will continue. We’re giving the bad elements a second chance through our amnesty and reintegration programme.”

He emphasized his government’s commitment to development that puts people first, noting that those who lay down arms will benefit from the amnesty offer.

The gathering featured remarks from federal lawmakers and other political figures who praised the governor’s efforts.

Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr., former House of Representatives member Bishop Alex Ukam, and ex-commissioner for lands Arc Bassey Ndem all spoke about the improvements.

One of them said: “Over two years ago, my Akpabuyo LGA was a hotbed for criminals. It got to the extent that they operated with impunity even in broad light. But today, residents can sleep in their house peacefully.”

Also present was Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Uganda, Nya Asuquo, who urged the governor to build on the success and extend the approach to other areas.
