Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended security agencies in the state for the successful rescue of Justice Ebieyerin Umukoro, who was abducted nearly two weeks ago by gunmen.
Justice Umukoro, a serving judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, was released on Thursday evening after spending 12 harrowing days in captivity. His freedom followed a coordinated operation by security personnel acting on the directive of Governor Diri.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the governor expressed profound gratitude to the various security agencies, particularly operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), for what he described as “tireless efforts and unrelenting pressure” that eventually compelled the abductors to release the judge.
“Bayelsa is not a haven for criminals. The combined efforts of our security men have once again proven that our state remains committed to peace, law, and order,” Diri said.
He assured residents that the fleeing abductors would be tracked down and brought to justice, reiterating his administration’s zero tolerance for crime and violence.
Governor Diri reaffirmed his administration’s continued investment in the safety and security of the people, pledging sustained support to all security agencies operating in the state.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperative, emphasizing that security remains a top priority of his government.
“The safety of every Bayelsan is paramount to us. We will stop at nothing to ensure peace and security across all communities in our state,” he added.
Justice Umukoro was kidnapped under undisclosed circumstances, and his abduction had sparked widespread concern among the legal community and the general public.
With his safe return, Bayelsans are breathing a sigh of relief, while security operatives continue their manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
