NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms, Rainfall Nationwide Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in several regions across the country on Wednesday, the 9th of July , 2025.

In its Tuesday weather update, NiMet stated that parts of the North, including “Taraba, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Bauchi would see thunderstorms with light to moderate rain in the morning”.

Other areas in the North will experience sunny intervals with patches of cloud.

Later in the day, “thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected in Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Gombe.”

For central states, the agency predicted “sunny intervals with patches of cloud in the morning”, followed by “light to moderate rainfall in most parts of the region” during the afternoon and evening.

Southern states are expected to start the day with “cloudy skies and light rain” across Ogun, Edo, Osun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Bayelsa, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

Rainfall is set to intensify to “moderate” levels by the afternoon and evening.

NiMet warned residents to stay alert due to “possible flash flooding and localized disruptions” that may occur from “thunderstorms and sustained rainfall.”
