Ihezuo’s Late Goal Secures Nigeria Victory Over Stubborn Botswana

In a tense Group Stage encounter, Nigeria’s Super Falcons snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Botswana in the dying minutes, keeping their qualification hopes alive in thrilling fashion.

The decisive moment came in the 89th minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo calmly slotted home from close range after a perfect low cross delivered by Esther Okoronkwo pierced through Botswana’s resilient backline.

The goal broke the deadlock after a hard-fought match dominated by Nigeria’s pressing but frustrated by Botswana’s determined defence.

Earlier in the second half, Nigeria suffered a setback when midfielder Deborah Abiodun was shown a yellow card in the 55th minute for a rough tackle.

That booking means she will miss Nigeria’s final group match—a blow to the Super Falcons’ midfield stability.

Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, Nigeria struggled to break down Botswana, who remained disciplined at the back for most of the match.

However, the breakthrough finally came when Okoronkwo found space on the flank and delivered a sharp low ball into the box, which Ihezuo coolly converted.

Full-Time: Botswana 0-1 Nigeria

The win puts Nigeria in a strong position heading into their final group match, though they’ll be without Abiodun.

Meanwhile, Botswana will feel hard done by after defending admirably for 88 minutes, only to be undone at the last.
