Tinubu Celebrates Wole Soyinka at 91st Birthday Milestone

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on the occasion of his 91st birthday, describing him as an enduring symbol of artistic brilliance, national service, and global inspiration.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President celebrated Soyinka’s remarkable legacy as a literary icon, cultural ambassador, and tireless advocate for human rights, education, and democracy.

President Tinubu highlighted Soyinka’s pioneering role as the first African to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986, applauding his contributions over the decades to Nigeria’s intellectual and socio-political landscape through his plays, poetry, essays, and public engagement.

“Professor Soyinka is an uncommon patriot who has continued to demonstrate his undying love for our country,” President Tinubu said.

“Even at the grand old age, he continues to be a source of inspiration to fellow citizens and people around the world.”

The President also reflected on his longstanding personal and professional relationship with the acclaimed playwright, describing it as a partnership built on mutual commitment to national progress.

Marking what he described as “the beginning of the journey into the last decade of his centennial,” President Tinubu extended warm wishes to the Nobel Laureate for continued good health and a sound mind.

Wole Soyinka remains a towering figure in global literature and public thought, widely respected for his fearless voice, creativity, and principled stand on national issues.
