Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Mourn Buhari, Decry Past Injustices, Pray for National Healing

The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA) has expressed condolences over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, while also using the moment to reflect on the deep wounds inflicted on their communities during his time in office.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Apostle Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, the association extended sympathy to Buhari’s family and the entire nation, offering prayers for healing and unity.

“May God heal this nation from the traumas of the past and raise leaders who will truly serve all Nigerians with justice, equity, and truth — not favouring one part of the country over another,” the statement read.

While acknowledging Buhari’s passing with respect, SKCLA did not shy away from addressing what it described as painful memories tied to his administration.

“As a body that speaks on behalf of a deeply wounded people, we must express the truth without pretense or political correctness,” the group stated.

“President Buhari’s second term in office stands out in our memory as one of the darkest and toughest eras for the Southern Kaduna people.”

The statement accused the federal government under Buhari’s leadership of turning a blind eye to the violence, persecution, and marginalization that plagued their communities, saying the administration was “either indifferent or complicit through silence.”

However, SKCLA also struck a note of reflection, recalling Buhari’s first tenure as Nigeria’s military Head of State (1984–1985) with a measure of nostalgia.

“At that time, he showed resolve in fighting corruption, promoting discipline, and upholding national values. That era proved Nigerians could adapt to discipline under the right leadership.”

The group concluded with a renewed call for unity and fairness in leadership:

“May God heal this nation from the traumas of the past and raise leaders who will truly serve all Nigerians with justice, equity, and truth.”
