Sanwo-Olu Warns Against Attacks on LASTMA, Unveils Tech Upgrades for Traffic Control

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his administration’s strong stance against violence directed at officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), stressing that anyone caught attacking them “will face the full weight of the law.”

Speaking on Tuesday, the 15th of July, 2025, through his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the governor delivered this message at the Second Lagos Traffic Conference, which doubled as the 25th anniversary celebration of LASTMA.

With the theme, “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” the event reflected on the agency’s impact and future direction.

Sanwo-Olu praised LASTMA’s personnel for their dedication and resilience despite the daily risks of managing Lagos traffic.

“I want to specially commend the men and women of LASTMA whose unwavering commitment ensures that Lagos keeps moving.

“Your uniform stands as the thin yellow line between road order and chaos. Your courage, professionalism, and resilience are at the heart of traffic safety in our city,” the governor said.

Looking ahead, the governor said LASTMA would undergo major upgrades to meet the growing demands of traffic control in the city.

He announced that Lagos would roll out new technologies to boost operations. These include artificial intelligence tools, automated number plate systems, and drone surveillance.

According to him, these digital solutions will help with faster monitoring, better traffic flow, and quicker incident response.
