Labour Party former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has disclosed that attending the burial of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, posed significant challenges due to the closure of Katsina Airport and the heavy influx of dignitaries.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Tuesday, Obi explained, “Yes, it was difficult to come here yesterday because there were no flights.
“Even if you have a flight, you can’t land at Katsina Airport. It was all closed because there were a lot of dignitaries.”
Despite the difficulties, Obi stressed the importance of paying his last respects to Buhari, whom he described as a leader deeply concerned about the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
“I had the opportunity of meeting him while I was campaigning, and I remember his words to this day: ‘Please care for the poor Nigerians.
“That’s what I always remember. And I believe he did his best within his capacity,” Obi said.
Reflecting on Buhari’s legacy, Obi urged leaders to embrace service and compassion:

“We have to all learn how to serve our country, knowing that one day we will all be called back by our creator.”
He also noted, in a veiled reference to current economic hardships, that the journey itself highlighted the challenges facing many Nigerians.
“The mourning continues tomorrow. So, whoever comes tomorrow, is still part of the mourning,” he added.
Buhari, who died on Sunday in London, was buried on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura with full military honours, drawing dignitaries from across the country and beyond, despite the travel constraints.
