APC Mocks Atiku’s PDP Exit, Says Move Lacks Political Weight

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed Atiku Abubakar’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting the move carries no political weight ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 16, the Lagos State APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, described Atiku’s defection as a desperate move that signals a crumbling opposition rather than a strategic realignment.

“Atiku’s actions reflect ambition without principle, not driven by ideology but by relentless personal pursuit,” Oladejo said. “Whether PDP, ADC or another, Nigerians remain politically aware and will not be swayed.”

Atiku formally announced his exit from the PDP earlier on Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences within the party and frustration with its post-election disunity.

His camp had recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is expected to serve as his political platform for the 2027 polls.

Oladejo, however, dismissed the impact of Atiku’s next political move, saying, “The APC stands as the only party delivering real governance, economic gains, and solid infrastructure.”

Atiku’s departure is widely seen as part of ongoing efforts to forge a new opposition coalition, though the APC believes the shift changes little.
