Tinubu Renames University of Maiduguri After Late Buhari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the University of Maiduguri will now be known as Muhammadu Buhari University, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The announcement came during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Thursday, July 17, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where tributes were paid to Buhari, who passed away earlier this week.

“May we now adopt the University of the Maduguri as the Muhammadu Buhari University,” Tinubu said at the close of the session.

According to the president, the renaming is a gesture of national gratitude for Buhari’s long years of service to the country, both as a military and civilian leader.

He also highlighted Buhari’s deep connection to the North-East and his lasting impact on Nigeria’s history.

Further guidance on how the name change will be formalised and implemented is expected soon from the Ministry of Education.
