Tinubu Appoints IBB’s Son as Bank of Agriculture Chairman

In a headline-grabbing appointment that blends legacy with leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Muhammad Babangida — son of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida — as the new chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The appointment was formally announced on Friday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, as part of a fresh wave of federal leadership reshuffles.

Muhammad Babangida brings academic pedigree and executive insight to the role, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland.

He also completed an executive education program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.

The move is seen by analysts as a strategic blend of influence, technocratic capability, and political symbolism — given Babangida’s high-profile lineage and international education.

President Tinubu also approved several other key appointments across major federal institutions:

Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State) was appointed Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA)

Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State) will chair the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC)

Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa(Kano State) becomes Chairman, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)
