Senate to Hold Special Tribute Session for Late Buhari Wednesday

The Senate will on Wednesday hold a special session to honour former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13 in London after a prolonged illness.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement during Tuesday’s plenary, saying the tribute would reflect on Buhari’s legacy and his role in Nigeria’s development.

The session follows a similar event held last week by the Federal Executive Council in Abuja.

Speaking at that gathering, President Bola Tinubu said, “Buhari led the country with restraint, governed with dignity, and bore the burdens of leadership without complaint.”

The former president was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023. He also led the country as military head of state between 1983 and 1985.
