Troops of Operation Forest Sanity III have recorded major successes against terrorists during a series of coordinated patrols across Zamfara, Kebbi, and Niger States, military authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
Acting on credible intelligence about terrorist movements, the troops launched a fighting patrol on July 22, 2025, moving from Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State through Kaboro and Sangeko to Makuku and Dankolo in Kebbi State.
Along the route, they linked up with forces stationed at Forward Operating Bases (FOB) Rijau and Warari in Niger State.
The military made this known in a statement shared on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
According to the statement, a fierce firefight ensued, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists.
The Troops also destroyed 18 motorcycles, which were being used for rapid movement and logistics by the terrorists.
Items recovered from the scene were AK‑47 rifles with loaded magazines, further weakening the terrorists’ combat capabilities.

The military confirmed that one gallant soldier paid the supreme price during the engagement.
In a follow‑up operation on July 23, troops carried out additional raids in the axis, leading to the recovery of more weapons and motorcycles.
Security sources who spoke with First Daily Correspondent on condition of anonymity said troops remain on high alert in the region following reports that some of the surviving terrorists are attempting to regroup.
The military has assured residents of the affected areas that it will sustain the momentum of Operation Forest Sanity III, intensifying clearance operations to deny terrorists any safe haven.
“Our troops remain resolute and committed to ending terrorism in the region, and the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen hero will not be in vain,” a senior officer said.
