Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over worsening hunger and alleged manipulation of economic data, nearly two years into his presidency.
In a post via his official X handle on Monday, July 28, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate reminded Nigerians of a campaign moment in Delta State in November 2022 when Tinubu mocked him for relying on data.
“In November 2022, while campaigning in Delta State, the then APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, now the President, berated the other Presidential Candidate (Peter Obi), he was ashamed to call his name, saying ‘Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians’,” Obi wrote.
He pointed out that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is now ranked among the hungriest nations in the world, with millions struggling to find their next meal.

“President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong Statistics from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP rebasing,” Obi stated, accusing the administration of using data manipulation “to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions.”
Obi insisted that good governance is not guesswork but a function of genuine leadership.
“Governance is not rocket science, it’s not a gamble,” he said. “Like I have always reiterated, it requires sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity and compassion.”
Reiterating his belief in a better future for the country, Obi ended his post with his signature message: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
