In a major security move ahead of the 2025 Osun-Osogbo International Festival, the Osun Amotekun Corps has deployed 500 operatives to ensure a safe and incident-free celebration as the grand finale approaches this Friday.
Recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage event, the Osun-Osogbo Festival annually attracts thousands of local and international tourists, traditional worshippers, and cultural enthusiasts, making it one of West Africa’s most iconic traditional gatherings.
In a statement released on Tuesday, spokesperson for the Corps, Yusuf Idowu, confirmed that Commandant Adekunle Omoyele had initiated proactive security measures covering all activities linked to the festival.
According to Omoyele, Amotekun operatives will be stationed at strategic locations — including festival grounds, popular routes, and major public convergence points — to provide both overt and covert security coverage throughout the event.
“The Osun-Osogbo Festival is not only a cultural celebration but also a globally recognized event that highlights the richness of our heritage. We will not tolerate any act that threatens the peace or sanctity of this revered occasion,” he warned.

Omoyele also issued a stern caution to individuals or groups intending to engage in criminal activities during the festivities, saying such behavior would be met with “the full force of the law.”
He encouraged participants to be security-conscious and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
“Our operatives are fully alert and on ground to protect lives and property. The safety of residents and visitors alike is our top priority,” he added.
This large-scale deployment reflects the state government’s commitment to protecting its cultural legacy while ensuring public safety during one of Nigeria’s most celebrated traditional festivals.
