The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for shifting focus to early re-election campaigns for President Bola Tinubu while Nigerians continue to endure worsening inflation, insecurity, and daily hardship.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused the APC of abandoning governance for premature political activities.
It said the ruling party had plunged into campaign mode two years ahead of the 2027 elections, disregarding both the law and the suffering of citizens.
“For months now, the APC has been holding rallies and putting up billboards across the country, calling for President Tinubu’s second term. From Abuja to Port Harcourt, Minna, Kano, and Akure, these staged endorsements ignore the Electoral Act and the recent warning from INEC, which clearly states that public campaigning is illegal until 150 days before the election.”
The party said the APC’s actions show a lack of respect for electoral laws and a greater concern for power than the people’s needs.
“The ADC said while the APC is busy chanting four more years for President Tinubu, the cost of living has become unbearable for ordinary Nigerians.”
It described how inflation has pushed up the cost of food, transport, and rent by about 60 percent since President Tinubu assumed office.
The party noted that the naira has fallen from N461 to over N1,500 per dollar, destroying savings and crushing small businesses. Petrol, which sold for N185 before the subsidy removal, now goes for more than N1,000 per litre, making daily life a struggle.
The ADC said Nigeria’s debt burden has grown sharply, leaving little funding for essential services like schools, hospitals, and road maintenance.
“According to the World Bank, the country now spends more on paying back loans than it earns in revenue,” ADC revealed.

It criticised the government for continuing to borrow while failing to improve revenue collection compared to its African peers.
On insecurity, the ADC described the situation as a national emergency, citing figures that show 122 security personnel and 1,865 civilians were killed between April and June. It said over 3,100 security-related deaths were recorded in the same period.
“Just last Friday, over 50 people were kidnapped in Sabon Gari Dirmi, Zamfara State. Nigerians are being abducted like it’s a daily business. But instead of addressing this crisis, the President is busy chasing endorsements for a second term.”
It said the government appears more interested in posting campaign billboards than deploying more security forces.
The ADC also criticised the APC over Nigeria’s unreliable power supply, saying the national grid has collapsed several times this year.
“Nigerians are hungry, sick, and scared. Yet instead of finding real solutions, the government is busy building a team of online propagandists and spreading false hope.”
The party demanded that the APC halt its illegal campaign and obey the law. “Until the lawful campaign window opens, every political billboard is a billboard of illegality and should be taken down,” the party said.
