Nigeria Needs Lasting Political Parties Bigger Than Govts — Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has called on Nigerians to focus on building political parties that are structured, law-abiding, and capable of outlasting individuals and governments.

Obi made the call on Wednesday, August 6, during the public presentation of two books written by veteran journalist Ike Abonyi, The Bubbles of Nigeria’s Democracy: The Musings of a Nigerian Journalist and Wadata Wonders: Memoirs of a Partisan Journalist.

“We are working hard to build that new Nigeria where we are going to have political parties that will outlive us, that is organised, that will be bigger than the government,” Obi said.

He also encouraged seasoned journalists with a deep understanding of Nigerian politics to write more books to help the public better grasp the country’s political landscape.
