Tragedy as Tanker Explosion Claims Multiple Lives in Zaria

Multiple casualties have been confirmed after a devastating tanker explosion rocked the Dan Magaji area of Zaria, Kaduna State, on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, between Kwangila and Dan Magaji.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Volkswagen Golf cars.

The collision reportedly triggered five loud explosions, sparking an inferno that sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.

“All the occupants of the cars died instantly, except one driver who survived but suffered severe burns,” a witness recounted.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle, said emergency responders and security operatives swiftly moved to the scene.

Authorities have since cordoned off the area, urging motorists to seek alternative routes as rescue and recovery operations continue.

The Kaduna State emergency services are yet to release an official casualty figure, but locals fear the death toll could rise given the intensity of the blaze.
