Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has publicly declared his support for Mrs. Justina Azuka, widow of the late Hon. Justice Azuka, in her bid to represent Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account on Wednesday, Obi said Mrs. Azuka had chosen “the path of service” despite the “tragic and gruesome loss” of her husband, who was killed by kidnappers. She is contesting to serve the remaining 13 months of his tenure.
Obi described her as a young mother of three — aged seven, five, and three — and praised her resilience, strength, and commitment to public service. A Higher National Diploma graduate in Public Administration, Obi said she embodies the balance of “competence with humanity” required for true leadership.

“I call on all well-meaning citizens, at home and beyond, to rally behind her candidacy,” Obi urged, framing support for Mrs. Azuka as both an investment in competent representation and an act of solidarity to ease her burden.
He emphasised that her election on Saturday, 16 August 2025, would send a message that in a “new Nigeria” leaders will be compassionate, uphold justice, and care for one another during difficult times.
“A New Nigeria is POssible,” Obi concluded.
