The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State is facing fresh turmoil as 83 members have taken the party’s state chairman, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and others to court over the conduct of its state congress.
First News gathered on Wednesday, August 13, that in a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Owerri, the aggrieved members are seeking to remove Nwachukwu and other top officials from office.
Lead plaintiff Lambert Eze accused the party of breaching the Electoral Act 2022 and its constitution by excluding duly elected delegates from Ideato North and Ideato South during the 31 August 2024 congress that brought in the current executives.

He described the process as “unlawful, null, and void.”
Also listed as defendants are the PDP national leadership and ten other individuals, including the party’s caretaker leaders in Ideato North and Ideato South, Hon. Chris Ozoemenam and Hon. Dr. Sylvester Durukwuaku.
The plaintiffs want the court to annul the congress, bar the current executives from holding themselves out as leaders, and order a fresh congress that includes all qualified delegates.
The case, marked FHC/OW/CS/51/2025, was filed through their lawyer, K. U. Alisigwe of Ononaku Chambers, Owerri.
