Tinubu Departs Japan After TICAD9, Heads to Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Yokohama, Japan, for Brazil, where he is scheduled to begin a state visit on Sunday, August 24.

According to a State House statement released on Friday, August 22, and signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu embarked on the ultra-long-haul flight on Thursday night, with a stopover planned in Los Angeles before proceeding to Brasilia, the Brazilian capital.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night for the ultra-long-haul flight to Brazil, where he will begin a state visit on August 24,” the statement read.

The trip marks the second leg of the president’s two-nation foreign visit, which began on Friday, August 15. He had earlier left Abuja with his entourage and made a stopover in Dubai before arriving in Yokohama on August 18.

The statement noted that the president attended the opening ceremony and plenary of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD9) on August 20.

He also held bilateral meetings with world leaders and rounded off with an interactive session with Nigerians in the diaspora on Thursday night.
