Chelle Unveils 31-Man Squad as Super Eagles Face Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced a provisional list of 31 players for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for next month.

The three-time African champions will first welcome Rwanda before travelling to Bloemfontein for a high-stakes clash against South Africa on September 9.

Chelle’s squad features familiar names, with Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Fulham defender Calvin Bassey, and experienced centre-back William Troost-Ekong all included.

The fixtures come at a defining moment for Nigeria’s qualification hopes, as the Eagles currently sit fourth in Group C with seven points, trailing South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin Republic.

With only one automatic qualification slot available, the two matches could prove decisive in determining whether Nigeria books a ticket to the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada next year.

More details on the full squad list and team preparations are expected in the coming days.
