Flooding has forced the relocation of about 240 households from Garin Kolo in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.
He explained that the relocation became necessary after a heavy flood swept through the community, displacing more than 200 households, destroying latrines and water sources, and leaving residents exposed to possible disease outbreaks.
Goje noted that the evacuation was carried out in line with the directive of the state governor.
The exercise, according to him, involved SEMA officials, the State Epidemiology Manager, and other relevant agencies.
“Despite the difficult terrain caused by floodwaters, the team ensured that women, children, and the elderly were prioritized in the initial phase of evacuation. The exercise will continue until every household is safely relocated,” he said.

He revealed that the local government authority had already provided land for resettlement, while 22 temporary shelters had been erected by the Local Emergency Management Committee in collaboration with the state team.
“Enough for 200 people as of today 26th with more underway,” Goje added.
He further confirmed the installation of a water reservoir, the provision of five emergency toilets, and the deployment of an ambulance for medical emergencies.
“Security personnel from the NSCDC and Police have ensured safety of lives and property throughout the operation,” Goje said.
Some vulnerable residents needing urgent care were also referred to and admitted at the General Hospital in Nangere during the evacuation.
