The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a major victory in Rivers State, clinching 20 out of 23 local government areas in Saturday’s Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which controls the state government, managed to win only three LGAs in the election organised by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

In a surprising twist, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Opobo-Nkoro LGA was among those won by the APC, underscoring the scale of the opposition party’s performance.
RSIEC Chairman, Dr Michael Odey, who announced the results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, confirmed the APC’s overwhelming success in the polls.
