Wike Questions Obi’s Silence on 2027 Political Platform

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi for not disclosing the political platform he intends to contest under in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the remarks during his monthly media briefing on TVC, held live on Monday, September 1, 2025, where he engaged journalists on national political developments.

He contrasted Obi’s silence with other opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who have both openly declared their presidential bids under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Atiku has said he is going to run in ADC, Ameachi has said he is going to run in ADC, but Peter Obi has not said where he will run. Why are you keeping your supporters guessing? He wants to wait until we are finished working in PDP, and then he comes. Is he a saint?” Wike said.

Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the Labour Party platform, has confirmed he will run again in 2027 but has yet to make his choice of political base public.

His silence has fuelled speculation over possible alignments and negotiations ahead of the polls.

The ADC, led by National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, has recently gained momentum with high-profile defections, including Atiku and Amaechi, as it positions itself as a key opposition challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike’s comments underscore growing competition within Nigeria’s opposition camp as major players strategise on platforms and alliances for the 2027 general elections.
