An inmate who escaped custody in Lafayette, Louisiana, was recaptured after attempting to hide inside a garbage can in a residential backyard.
The inmate, identified as 47-year-old Shon Alick Jolivette, escaped from deputies while being taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities said he managed to remove his restraints and fled on foot.
Surveillance footage showed Jolivette climbing over a backyard fence before slipping into a garbage can in an attempt to evade capture.
The homeowner alerted police after spotting him in the yard.

A K-9 unit initially swept the area but did not locate him. Officers later returned and found Jolivette in the garbage can. He was taken back into custody at about 8:20 a.m.
The escape prompted temporary lockdowns at three nearby schools before classes began as a precaution.
Jolivette had been in custody on charges including armed robbery, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
