ASUU-FUOYE Embarks on Indefinite Strike Over Salary Arrears

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has declared an indefinite strike following issues of unpaid wages.

This decision was conveyed in a letter on Thursday, the 11th of September, 2025, to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu.

The correspondence was endorsed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, alongside the Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho. It emphasized that the union would not call off the strike until lecturers affected by the salary delays are paid.

The FUOYE chapter explained that its decision was in line with a directive earlier issued by the ASUU national leadership.

The statement noted: “The National Executive Council of ASUU has resolved that where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month, the branch concerned must suspend academic activities until payment is made.

“In compliance with this directive, ASUU-FUOYE has proceeded on strike. The action is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be suspended upon payment of salaries.”
