A medical tribunal in the United Kingdom has heard shocking revelations about Dr. Suhail Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist accused of abandoning a patient under anaesthetic to engage in sexual activity with a nurse at Tameside Hospital, Greater Manchester.
According to the hearing, Dr. Anjum excused himself during surgery under the guise of taking a “comfort break” and asked a colleague to oversee the patient. Instead, he went to another theatre where he was discovered in a sexual encounter with Nurse C.
A fellow nurse walked in on the pair, later reporting the incident as “compromising” and deeply unprofessional.
Andrew Molloy, representing the General Medical Council (GMC), confirmed that while no harm befell the patient during Dr. Anjum’s absence, the conduct raised serious questions about professional standards.
Dr. Anjum has admitted to the allegations, characterising his actions as “shameful.” Addressing the panel, he said:

“It was quite shameful, to say the least. I only have myself to blame. I offer my sincere apologies to everyone involved and I want the opportunity to put this right.”
He further explained that the lapse in judgment occurred during what he described as a “stressful period” for his family.
The tribunal is set to continue proceedings on Friday.
