Imo Govt Vows Action for Safe Release of Abducted Ex-Lawmaker Ngozi Ogbu

The Imo State Government has pledged that every necessary step is being taken to secure the release of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, a former Okigwe Local Government chairman and ex-member of the State House of Assembly, who was kidnapped one week ago.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, described the abduction as “brazen and lawless,” assuring that the government is working closely with security agencies to ensure Ogbu’s safe return.

“The state government, in concert with security agencies, has activated all necessary mechanisms to guarantee his prompt and safe release,” Emelumba said.

While condemning the incident, the government also cautioned politicians against exploiting the situation for partisan purposes.

“The politicisation of a matter involving the life of a husband, father, and fellow citizen is, to say the least, deeply unconscionable,” Emelumba added.

He stressed that irresponsible comments or actions risk trivialising Ogbu’s ordeal and could further endanger his life.

Reaffirming its stance, the government reiterated its “unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property” and vowed to continue working tirelessly to safeguard Imo residents.
