Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have pledged to rally voters and secure overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
At a Monday, September 15, meeting in Akure, the state capital, the Ondo State APC Elders Movement said it would ensure 1.5 million of the state’s 1.9 million registered voters turn out to vote for Tinubu.
“This is the elder’s movement for Tinubu’s continuity in office. This type of meeting will be held at local government areas, wards, and units to strengthen support for Tinubu’s re-election,” said the group’s Chairman, Senator Nimbe Farunkanmi.
Mr Jamiu Ekungba, another leader of the elders’ group, explained that the gathering was aimed at mobilising party members and ensuring committed voter registration.
“You know, in the last election, we tried it and were able to achieve it, because for the governor to win 366,000 votes was unusual.

“So, as somebody has said, we are going to deliver 1.5 million votes to Tinubu, and it is possible because registered voters in the state are 1.9 million,” Ekungba said.
He expressed concern over voter apathy and said the elders’ efforts would encourage widespread participation.
“So what the elders want to do now is to persuade everyone to come out and vote, and we’re going to vote massively for Tinubu in a way that has never been done. When the results come, no one can question it because it will be real votes,” he noted.
Mrs Olukemi Iyantan, Ondo State representative in the National Population Commission, highlighted that the party’s focus had shifted to the 2027 elections following the November 16, 2024, governorship poll.
“We are concentrating on achieving victory in 2027 for the re-election of our President, Bola Tinubu. The key is unity of purpose and the creation of the elders’ movement.
“We will always consult the elders for guidance. Unlike before, when leadership was lacking, the commitment of these elders will make the re-election of our president much more achievable,” she said.
