The National Examinations Council (NECO) has published the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, showing that “60.26 per cent of the candidates obtained five credits and above, including in Mathematics and English.”
At a briefing held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, the 17th of September, 2025, the Registrar and Chief Executive, Dantani Wushishi, confirmed that 1,367,210 students registered for the exam, with 1,358,339 eventually sitting for it.
Breaking down the performance, Wushishi explained that “818,492 candidates – representing 60.26 per cent -obtained five credits and above,” while “1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.”
He said the results demonstrate the Council’s drive for fairness and credibility, describing the outcome as “a milestone that reflected transparency, credibility, and the council’s commitment to quality education.”
A total of 1,622 candidates with special needs also took part in the exams. They included candidates with hearing impairment, visual impairment, albinism, autism, and other conditions.
On malpractice, the registrar highlighted a major drop in cases, announcing “a 61.58 per cent reduction in examination malpractice, with 3,878 cases recorded in 2025 compared to the 10,094 in 2024.”

Despite this progress, Wushishi said that 38 schools across 13 states were discovered to have engaged in mass cheating and would face disciplinary measures. He added that nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun states would be blacklisted “for aiding malpractice and other misconduct.”
He further disclosed that results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were suspended due to communal violence that disrupted the examination process.
In his address, the registrar expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for backing NECO’s reforms. He also appealed to tertiary institutions to “wait for all examination bodies to release results before finalising admissions.”
