The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed a video circulating on social media alleging that one of its officers is involved in aiding kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the video as “false, mischievous, and malicious,” insisting that it was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force and demonise the officer featured.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the officer featured in the video is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who is not serving in the Anambra State Police Command. The officer remains one of the prides of the Force in character and crime-fighting,” the statement clarified.
Ikenga emphasised that Anambra State has, in recent years, recorded significant progress in combating violent crimes, particularly kidnapping, owing to stronger collaboration between security agencies and residents.

He noted that the sacrifices of security operatives in safeguarding lives and property are yielding results and must not be undermined by malicious campaigns.
He urged the public to disregard the misleading video, stressing that the Command would invoke relevant cybercrime laws to track and prosecute those responsible for producing and circulating the content.
“The sacrifices of our security operatives in safeguarding lives and property are not in vain. We therefore call on the general public to disregard the misleading video and remain resolute in supporting lawful security efforts,” Ikenga added.
