Authorities in India have detained three Nigerian nationals for allegedly residing illegally in the country, the Operations Cell of Delhi Police’s South West District confirmed on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The detainees, Eloumuno Gabriel, 29, from Anambra; Chinedu Paulinus, 33, from Asaba; and Sunusi Sani, 26, from Lagos, initially claimed to hold valid visas.
Verification with the Nigerian High Commission in India and the Indian Immigration Department revealed that they had overstayed their permitted period and had not returned to Nigeria.
Following standard legal procedures, the deportation process has been initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in New Delhi.
Police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and tackle illegal residency among foreign nationals in the city.

This comes shortly after 15 foreign nationals, including 13 Nigerians, were deported from Dwarka earlier this month for similar violations.
Authorities have stressed that all foreign residents in India must comply with visa regulations.
There is a warning that illegal residency would attract strict enforcement, including detention and deportation.
